Context of Hebrews 10:35
33Sometimes people insulted you. They made you ashamed in front of other people. Sometimes you chose to help other Christians who had trouble like that. Their troubles became your troubles. 34You were kind to Christians who were in prison. When people took away your own things, you still chose to be happy. You knew that you had something better that would belong to you for ever. So continue to be strong in your thoughts. If you continue to trust God, you will receive great things. 36You need to be patient and strong. Then you will continue to do what God wants. As a result, you will receive what God has promised. 37This is what the Bible says: ‘In a very short time, my special servant will come. He is the one that I promised to send to you. He will not be late.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 35Cast not away therefore your confidence - ̔ ̔· Your liberty of access to God; your title and right to approach his throne; your birthright as his sons and daughters; and the clear evidence you have of his favor, which, if you be not steady and faithful, you must lose. Do not throw it away, · neither men nor devils can take it from you, and God will never deprive you of it if you continue faithful. There is a reference here to cowardly soldiers, who throw…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 35Cast not away therefore your confidence - Greek “your boldness;” referring to their confident hope in God. They were not to cast this away, and to become timid, disheartened, and discouraged. They were to bear up manfully under all their trials, and to maintain a steadfast adherence to God and to his cause. The command is not to “cast this away.” Nothing could take it from them if they trusted in God, and it could be lost only by their own neglect or…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 32-39Verses 32-39 Many and various afflictions united against the early Christians, and they had a great conflict. The Christian spirit is not a selfish spirit; it puts us upon pitying others, visiting them, helping them, and pleading for them. All things here are but shadows. The happiness of the saints in heaven will last for ever; enemies can never take it away as earthly goods. This will make rich amends for all we may lose and suffer here. The greatest…Read the comment

The term translated as confidence also refers to boldness when approaching God (4:16; 10:19; see also 3:6). Those who stay faithful will receive a great reward (see 1:14; 6:12; 9:15; James 1:12).
