Context of Acts 2:44
42These new believers listened carefully to what the apostles taught them. They joined with everyone else in the group. They prayed together and they ate meals together. 43The apostles did many miracles which showed that the power of God was with them. As a result, all the people were very surprised and afraid. All the believers continued to meet together often. They shared all their things with each other. 45They sold some of their own things. Then they gave that money to any believers who needed it. 46The whole group of believers met together every day in the yard of the temple. They shared their food and they ate meals together in each other's homes. They were very happy and they were honest with each other.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 44And, all that believed - ̔ , The believers, i.e. those who conscientiously credited the doctrine concerning the incarnation, crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ, and had, in consequence, received redemption in his blood. Were together - . "These words signify either, in one time, Acts 3:1; or in one place, Acts 2:1; or in one thing. The last of these three senses seems to be the most proper here; for it is not probable that the…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 44All that believed - That is, that believed that Jesus was the Messiah; for that was the distinguishing point by which they were known from others. Were together - Were united; were joined in the same thing. It does not mean that they lived in the same house, but they were united in the same community, or engaged in the same thing. They were doubtless often together in the same place for prayer and praise. One of the best means for strengthening the faith…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 42-47Verses 42-47 In these verses we have the history of the truly primitive church, of the first days of it; its state of infancy indeed, but, like that, the state of its greatest innocence. They kept close to holy ordinances, and abounded in piety and devotion; for Christianity, when admitted in the power of it, will dispose the soul to communion with God in all those ways wherein he has appointed us to meet him, and has promised to meet us. The greatness of…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 42-47Luke makes a clear connection between personal faith and belonging to the Christian community. The difficulty can only be removed by supposing that they already employed sprinkling, or baptized in houses in large vessels. Formal submersion in rivers, or larger quantities of water…Read the comment
