2 Corinthians 5:4
4While we still live in our bodies here on earth, we cry inside ourselves. Many difficult things happen to us. We do not really want to take off our old body. But we do want to put on our new body, like new clothes. When that happens, we will no longer need our old body which had to die. Instead we will have a new body that will live for ever.

- New King James Version (NKJV)For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life.
Context of 2 Corinthians 5:4
2Now, while we are in our body here on earth, we cry inside ourselves. We want to go and live in our house that is in heaven. 3That will be like new clothes that we put on. When we go to live there, we will not be without clothes and ashamed. While we still live in our bodies here on earth, we cry inside ourselves. Many difficult things happen to us. We do not really want to take off our old body. But we do want to put on our new body, like new clothes. When that happens, we will no longer need our old body which had to die. Instead we will have a new body that will live for ever. 5God is the one who has prepared us to have a new life in heaven one day. He has given his Spirit to be with us now. Because of that, we know that we will receive all God's good things one day. 6Because God's Spirit is with us, we continue to be brave. While we still live here on earth, we know that we are not yet at home with the Lord.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 4For we that are in this tabernacle - We who are in this state of trial and difficulty do groan, being burdened; as if he had said: The whole of human life is a state of suffering, and especially our lot; who are troubled on every side, perplexed, persecuted, cast down, bearing about in the body the dying of our Lord Jesus, and being always delivered unto death on the account of Jesus, 2 Corinthians 4:8-11. These were sufficient burdens, and sufficient…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 4For we - We who are Christians. All Christians. That are in this tabernacle - This frail and dying body; note, 2 Corinthians 5:1. Do groan - see 2 Corinthians 5:2. This is a further explanation of what is said in 2 Corinthians 5:2. It implies an ardent and earnest desire to leave a world of toil and pain, and to enter into a world of rest and glory. Being burdened - Being borne down by the toils, and trials, and calamities of this life; see the note, 2…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-10The idea of eternal hope is promising, with heavenly bodies replacing our dying ones. The God of resurrection will raise us and present us with all believers (4:14). Paul faced challenges in Ephesus, which inspired this statement about resurrection hope (1:8–11). His body's weakness reminded him of life after death, when our earthly body will be taken down in death and decay (see 1 Corinthians 15:42–57; Philippians 3:20–21).Read the comment

Believers shrink from, not the consequences, but the mere act of dying; especially as believing in the possibility of their being found alive at the…Read the comment
