Context of Luke 19:22
20And another came, saying, [My] Lord, lo, [there is] thy mina, which I have kept laid up in a towel. 21For I feared thee because thou art a harsh man: thou takest up what thou hast not laid down, and thou reapest what thou hast not sowed. He says to him, Out of thy mouth will I judge thee, wicked bondman: thou knewest that I am a harsh man, taking up what I have not laid down and reaping what I have not sowed. 23And why didst thou not give my money to [the] bank; and I should have received it, at my coming, with interest? 24And he said to those that stood by, Take from him the mina and give [it] to him who has the ten minas.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 22Out of thine own mouth - By your own statement, or your own views of my character. If you “knew” that this was my character, and “knew” that I would be rigid, firm, and even severe, it would have been the part of wisdom in you to have made the best use of the money in your power; but as you “knew” my character beforehand, and was well acquainted with the fact that I should demand a strict compliance with your obligation, you have no right to complain if…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 11-27Verses 11-27 This parable is like that of the talents, Mt 25. The manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal, 1Co 12:7. And as every one has received the gift, so let him minister the same, 1Pe 4:10. The account required, resembles that in the parable of the talents; and the punishment of…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 11-27This parable has two main purposes: To teach stewardship. This means managing gifts and resources well while the man of noble birth (Jesus) is away (compare Matthew 25:14–30). Most Jews in the time of Jesus expected that when the Messiah (the Christ) came, God’s kingdom would be established physically on earth, with Jerusalem at its center (see Isaiah…Read the comment
