Context of Matthew 26:13
11You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me. 12By pouring this perfume on my body, she has prepared me for burial. Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.” 14Then one of the Twelve, the man called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15and said, “What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?” So they weighed out thirty pieces of silver for him.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 13Wheresoever this Gospel shall be preached - Another remarkable proof of the prescience of Christ. Such a matter as this, humanly speaking, depended on mere fortuitous circumstances, yet so has God disposed matters, that the thing has continued, hitherto, as firm and regular as the ordinances of heaven. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 6-13Verses 6-13 The pouring ointment upon the head of Christ was a token of the highest respect. Where there is true love in the heart to Jesus Christ, nothing will be thought too good to bestow upon him. The more Christ's servants and their services are cavilled at, the more he manifests his acceptance. This act of faith and love was so remarkable, that it would be reported, as a memorial of Mary's faith and love, to all future ages, and in all places where…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 6-13A similar anointing happened earlier in Galilee (Luke 7:36–50). Matthew includes this event here (compare John 12:1–8) to highlight different responses to Jesus.
