Context of Revelation 9:8
6In those days, people will seek death but will not find it; they will long to die, but death will flee from them. 7Now the appearance of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle. On their heads were something like crowns of gold, and their faces were like human faces. They had hair like women’s hair, and their teeth were like those of lions. 9They had chests like iron breastplates; and the noise of their wings was like the noise of many horse-drawn chariots rushing into battle. 10They have tails like scorpions with stingers; and in their tails is their power to harm people for five months.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 8And they had hair as the hair of women - Long hair; not such as men commonly wear, but such as women wear. See the notes on 1 Corinthians 11:14. This struck John as a peculiarity, that, though warriors, they should have the appearance of effeminacy indicated by allowing their hair to grow long. It is clear from this, that John regarded their appearance as unusual and remarkable. Though manifestly designed to represent an army, yet it was not the usual…Read the comment
