Context of Luke 9:29

27But I tell you truthfully, there are some standing here who will never taste death until they see the kingdom of God.” 28About eight days after these teachings, Yeshua took Peter, John, and Jacob with Him and went up the mountain to pray. While He was praying, the appearance of His face changed, and His clothing flashed like white lightning. 30And behold, two men were talking with Him, Moses and Elijah. 31Appearing in glory, they were speaking of Yeshua’s departure, which was about to take place in Jerusalem.

As Mark says, “more white than any fuller could make it.” Luke 9:31 In glory - Of a glorious appearance. Of an appearance like that which the saints have in heaven. • Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 28-36Verses 28-36 Christ's transfiguration was a specimen of that glory in which he will come to judge the world; and was an encouragement to his disciples to suffer for him. Prayer is a transfiguring, transforming duty, which makes the face to shine. Our Lord Jesus, even in his transfiguration, was willing to speak concerning his death and sufferings. In our greatest glories on earth, let us remember that in this world we have no continuing city. What need we…Read the comment

• Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 2929. as he prayed, the fashion, &c.--Before He cried He was answered, and while He was yet speaking He was heard. Blessed interruption to prayer this! Thanks to God, transfiguring manifestations are not quite strangers here. Ofttimes in the deepest depths, out of groanings which cannot be uttered, God's dear children are suddenly transported to a kind of heaven upon earth, and their soul is made as the chariots of Amminadab. Their prayers fetch down such…Read the comment
