Context of Luke 9:30
28About eight days after these teachings, Yeshua took Peter, John, and Jacob with Him and went up the mountain to pray. 29While He was praying, the appearance of His face changed, and His clothing flashed like white lightning. And behold, two men were talking with Him, Moses and Elijah. 31Appearing in glory, they were speaking of Yeshua’s departure, which was about to take place in Jerusalem. 32Now Peter and those with him were overcome with sleep. But when they awakened, they saw Yeshua’s glory and the two men standing with Him.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 28-36Verses 28-36 Christ's transfiguration was a specimen of that glory in which he will come to judge the world; and was an encouragement to his disciples to suffer for him. Prayer is a transfiguring, transforming duty, which makes the face to shine. Our Lord Jesus, even in his transfiguration, was willing to speak concerning his death and sufferings. In our greatest glories on earth, let us remember that in this world we have no continuing city. What need we…Read the comment
