- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 72And when he thought thereon, he wept - Or, he fell a weeping. This Mr. Wakefield thinks comes nearest to the original, . Others think it means the wrapping of his head in the skirts of his garment, through shame and anguish. Others think that rather refers to the violence, or hurry, with which he left the place, being impelled thereto by the terrors and remorse of his guilty conscience. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 66-72Verses 66-72 Peter's denying Christ began by keeping at a distance from him. Those that are shy of godliness, are far in the way to deny Christ. Those who think it dangerous to be in company with Christ's disciples, because thence they may be drawn in to suffer for him, will find it much more dangerous to be in company with his enemies, because there they may be drawn in to sin against him. When Christ was admired and flocked after, Peter readily owned…Read the comment

When Peter remembered what Jesus had said, he began to weep.Read the comment

Alas!--But now comes the wonderful sequel. The Redeemer's Look upon Peter, and Peter's Bitter Tears (Mr 14:72; Lu 22:61, 62). It has been observed that while the beloved…Read the comment
