Context of Revelation 22:9
7I’m coming soon! Blessed is the one who follows the words of the prophecy in this book.” 8I, John, heard and saw these things. When I had heard and seen them, I bowed to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing me these things. He told me, “Don’t do that! I am your coworker. I work with other Christians, the prophets, and those who follow the words in this book. Worship God!” 10Then the angel said to me, “Don’t seal up the words of the prophecy in this book because the time is near. 11Let those who don’t have God’s approval go without it, and let filthy people continue to be filthy. Let those who have God’s approval continue to have it, and let holy people continue to be holy.”

And of thy brethren the prophets - In Revelation 19:10, it is “of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus.” Here the angel says that, in the capacity in which he appeared to John, he belonged to the general rank of the prophets, and was no more entitled to worship than any of the prophets had been. - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 8-9The warning against false worship (see Revelation 19:10) is repeated when John falls at the angel's feet again. Only God deserves our worship (compare John the Baptist's relationship to Jesus; John 1:6–8, 26–27; 3:27–35).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 99. Literally, "See not"; the abruptness of the phrase marking the angel's abhorrence of the thought of his being worshipped however indirectly. Contrast the fallen angel's temptation to Jesus, "Fall down and worship me" (Mt 4:9). for--A, B, Vulgate, Syriac, Coptic, Andreas, and Cyprian omit "for"; which accords with the abrupt earnestness of the angel's prohibition of an act derogatory to God. and of--"and (the fellow servant) of thy brethren."Read the comment
