Context of Romans 3:12
10This is written in the Bible: ‘There is nobody who is right with God. There is not even one person who is like that. 11There is nobody who understands what is true. There is nobody who wants to worship God. Everyone has turned away from God. All people have become completely bad. Nobody does what is good or kind. There is not even one person who is like that. 13Bad words come out of their mouth, like a very bad smell. They tell lies all the time, so that people do wrong things. The things that they say hurt people, like a snake's poison. 14They are always saying bad things against people, because they want to cause trouble for them.

Commentaries on Romans 3:12
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 12They are all gone out of the way - , they have all diverged from the right way, they have either abandoned or corrupted the worship of God: the Jews, in forsaking the law and the prophets, and the Gentiles, in acting contrary to the law which God had written on their hearts. And the departure of both from the truth proves the evil propensity of human nature in general. They are together become unprofitable - . They are useless, good for nothing; or, as…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 12They have all gone out of the way - They have “declined” from the true path of piety and virtue. They are together - They have at the same time; or they have equally become unprofitable. They are as one; they are joined, or united in this declension. The expression denotes union, or similarity. Become unprofitable - This word in Hebrew means to become “putrid” and “offensive,” like fruit that is spoiled. In Arabic, it is applied to “milk” that becomes…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 9-18Verses 9-18 Here again is shown that all mankind are under the guilt of sin, as a burden; and under the government and dominion of sin, as enslaved to it, to work wickedness. This is made plain by several passages of Scripture from the Old Testament, which describe the corrupt and depraved state of all men, till grace restrain or change them. Great as our advantages are, these texts describe multitudes who call themselves Christians. Their principles and…Read the comment

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 10-1210-12. As it is written, &c.--(Psa 14:1-3; 53:1-3). These statements of the Psalmist were indeed suggested by particular manifestations of human depravity occurring under his own eye; but as this only showed what man, when unrestrained, is in his present condition, they were quite pertinent to the apostle's purpose.Read the comment
