Context of Luke 2:19
17After they had seen the baby, they told everybody about him. They told them what the angel had said to them about him. 18Many people heard what the shepherds said. They were very surprised. Mary remembered everything that the shepherds had said. She thought about it all for a long time. 20The shepherds then went back to their sheep. As they went they praised God. ‘How great you are!’ they said to him. ‘How good you are! Everything that the angel told us was true! We have heard good news. We have seen very special things!’ 21When the baby was eight days old, it was time for the priest to circumcise him. His parents gave him the name ‘Jesus’. The angel had told Mary that they must give him that name. He told her that before she had the baby inside her.

She “remembered” what the angel had said to “her;” what had happened to Elizabeth and to the shepherds - all the extraordinary circumstances which had attended. the birth of her son. Here is a delicate and beautiful expression of the feelings of a mother. A “mother” forgets none of those things which occur respecting her children. Everything they do or suffer…Read the comment

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 8-208. abiding in the fields--staying there, probably in huts or tents. watch ... by night--or, night watches, taking their turn of watching. From about passover time in April until autumn, the flocks pastured constantly in the open fields, the shepherds lodging there all that time.
