Context of Acts 15:12
10So do not say that God has done a wrong thing. God has shown us that he accepts Gentiles when they believe in Jesus. If you make the Gentile believers obey the Law of Moses, that is like a heavy weight on their necks. Even we Jews and our ancestors could not carry that heavy weight. 11God saves us who are Jews when we believe in Jesus. It is not because we obey the Law of Moses. It is because the Lord Jesus is kind to us. God saves Gentiles in the same way, when they believe in Jesus.’ After Peter said this everybody in the group was quiet. Then Barnabas and Paul spoke to them. They said, ‘God helped us to do great miracles among the Gentiles. These showed that God was with us.’ 13When they had finished their report, James spoke to the group. He said, ‘Listen to me, my friends. 14Simon Peter has just described to us what happened first with the Gentile believers. He explained how God chose some of them to belong to him as his own people.

Commentaries on Acts 15:12
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 12All the multitude kept silence - The strong facts stated by St. Peter could not be controverted. His speech may be thus analyzed: Circumcision is a sign of the purification of the heart. That purification can only be effected by the Holy Ghost. This Holy Spirit was hitherto supposed to be the portion of those only who had received circumcision. But the Gentiles, who were never circumcised, nor kept any part of the law of Moses, have had their hearts…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 12Then all the multitude - Evidently the multitude of private Christians who were assembled on this occasion. That it does not refer to a synod of ministers and elders merely is apparent: (1) Because the church, the brethren, are represented as having been present, and as concurring in the final opinion Acts 15:22-23; and, (2) Because the word “multitude” ̀ ͂ to plēthoswould not have been used in describing the collection of apostles and elders merely…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 7-21Verses 7-21 We see from the words "purifying their hearts by faith," and the address of St. Peter, that justification by faith, and sanctification by the Holy Ghost, cannot be separated; and that both are the gift of God. We have great cause to bless God that we have heard the gospel. May we have that faith which the great Searcher of hearts approves, and attests by the seal of the Holy Spirit. Then our hearts and consciences will be purified from the…Read the comment

Then all ... gave audience to Barnabas and Paul--On this order of the names here, see on Ac 15:25. declaring what miracles and signs God wrought among the Gentiles by them--This detail of facts, immediately following up those which Peter had recalled to mind, would lead all who waited only for divine teaching to see that God had Himself pronounced the Gentile converts to be disciples in as full standing as the Jews, without circumcision; and the…Read the comment
