Context of Luke 9:28
26For whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and that of the Father and the holy angels. 27Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God.” About eight days after this conversation, he took along Peter, John, and James and went up on the mountain to pray. 29As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white. 30Suddenly, two men were talking with him — Moses and Elijah.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 28-36Verses 28-36 Christ's transfiguration was a specimen of that glory in which he will come to judge the world; and was an encouragement to his disciples to suffer for him. Prayer is a transfiguring, transforming duty, which makes the face to shine. Our Lord Jesus, even in his transfiguration, was willing to speak concerning his death and sufferings. In our greatest glories on earth, let us remember that in this world we have no continuing city. What need we…Read the comment
