Context of Hebrews 8:2
1Now the main point of what is being said is this: We have this kind of high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a minister of the sanctuary and the true tabernacle that was set up by the Lord and not man. 3For every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices; therefore, it was necessary for this priest also to have something to offer. 4Now if he were on earth, he wouldn’t be a priest, since there are those offering the gifts prescribed by the law.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-2The first two verses of chapter 8 connect the previous discussion and introduce the next topic. The main point is that Jesus is appointed as a superior high priest (Hebrews 5:1–10; 7:1–28). He serves in the heavenly tabernacle (also in 8:5): This introduces the theme of Jesus’s superior offering, discussed in the rest of this section (8:3–10:18). Unlike the Levitical priests who served in an earthly tent or building, the sacrifice of Jesus is superior…Read the comment
