Context of Mark 15:23
21Now Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the country, and the soldiers forced him to carry the cross of Jesus. 22They brought Jesus to a place called Golgotha, which means The Place of the Skull. There they offered Him wine mixed with myrrh, but He did not take it. 24And they crucified Him. They also divided His garments by casting lots to decide what each of them would take. 25It was the third hour when they crucified Him.

Whenever we look unto Christ crucified, we must remember what was written over his head; he is a King, and we must give up ourselves to be his subjects, as Israelites indeed. - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 23It is uncertain if people offered Jesus wine mixed with myrrh as a kind act or to mock him (Proverbs 31:6). Jesus refused the calming drink mixture because he had committed himself to accept the suffering God had given him (Mark 10:38–39; 14:36). People have used myrrh since before the time of Jesus to treat wounds, infections, and digestive problems.Read the comment
