Context of Luke 23:45
43Yeshua said to him, “Amen, I tell you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise.” 44It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour, for the sun died out. And the curtain of the Temple was torn in two. 46And Yeshua, crying out with a loud voice, said, “Father, ‘into Your hands I entrust My spirit.’” When He had said this, He breathed His last. 47Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he began glorifying God, saying, “Truly this was a righteous Man.”

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 44-49Verses 44-49 We have here the death of Christ magnified by the wonders that attended it, and his death explained by the words with which he breathed out his soul. He was willing to offer himself. Let us seek to glorify God by true repentance and conversion; by protesting against those who crucify the Saviour; by a sober, righteous, and godly life; and by employing our talents in the service of Him who died for us and rose again.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 45the veil of the temple: One curtain separated the temple courtyard from the Holy Place, and another separated the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place. Luke does not say which was torn down the middle, but it was probably the latter. The death of Jesus put an end to the sacrificial system of the temple and opened a new and permanent way into the presence of God (see Hebrews 10:19–20).Read the comment
