Context of John 5:25
23so that all should honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him. 24“Amen, amen I tell you, whoever hears My word and trusts the One who sent Me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed over from death into life. Amen, amen I tell you, an hour is coming and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of Ben-Elohim. Those who hear will live! 26For just as the Father has life in Himself, so also He has granted the Son to have life in Himself. 27Also He has given the Son authority to judge, because He is the Son of Man.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 25The dead shall hear the voice - Three kinds of death are mentioned in the Scriptures: natural, spiritual, and eternal. The first consists in the separation of the body and soul. The second in the separation of God and the soul. The third in the separation of body and soul from God in the other world. Answerable to these three kinds of death, there is a threefold life: Natural life, which consists in the union of the soul and body. Spiritual life, which…Read the comment
