Context of Hebrews 6:7
5and having tasted the good word of God and the powers of the olam ha-ba , 6and then having fallen away—to renew again to repentance, since they are again crucifying Ben-Elohim for themselves and publicly disgracing Him. For the earth—having soaked up the rain frequently falling on it—brings forth vegetation useful to those for whom it is farmed; and it shares in God’s blessing. 8But if it produces thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed—its end is to be burned over. 9But even though we speak like this, loved ones, concerning you we are convinced of better things—things coming with salvation.

Commentaries on Hebrews 6:7
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 7For the earth which drinketh in the rain - As much as if he had said: In giving up such apostates as utterly incurable, we act as men do in cultivating their fields; for as the ground, which drinketh in the rain by which the providence of God waters it, brings forth fruit to compensate the toil of the tiller, and continues to be cultivated, God granting his blessing to the labors of the husbandman; so,Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 7For the earth - The design of the apostle by this comparison is apparent. It is to show the consequences of not making a proper use of all the privileges which Christians have, and the effect which would follow should those privileges fail to be improved. He says, it is like the earth. If that absorbs the rain, and produces an abundant harvest, it receives the divine blessing. If not, it is cursed, or is worthless. The design is to show that “if”…Read the comment
