Context of Acts 27:10
8Coasting along it with difficulty, we came to a place called Fair Havens, near the city of Lasea. 9Since considerable time had passed and the voyage was already dangerous because the Fast had already gone by, Paul kept warning them, telling them, “Men, I can see that the voyage is about to end in disaster and great loss—not only of the cargo and the ship, but also of our lives!” 11But the centurion was persuaded more by the pilot and the captain of the ship than by what was said by Paul. 12And because the harbor was unsuitable for wintering, the majority reached a decision to set out to sea from there—if somehow they might reach Phoenix, a harbor of Crete facing northeast and southeast, and spend the winter there.

Commentaries on Acts 27:10
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 10I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt, etc. - Paul might either have had this intimation from the Spirit of God, or from his own knowledge of the state of this sea after the autumnal equinox, and therefore gave them this prudent warning.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 10Sirs - Greek: Men. I perceive - It is not certain that Paul understood this by direct inspiration. He might have perceived it from his own knowledge of the danger of navigation at the autumnal equinox, and from what he saw of the ship as unsuited to a dangerous navigation. But there is nothing that should prevent our believing also that he was guided to this conclusion by the inspiration of the Spirit of God. Compare Acts 27:23-24. Will be with hurt…Read the comment
