Context of Matthew 14:11

9And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the sake of the oath and them who sat eating with him, he commanded it to be given her . 10And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison. And his head was brought on a platter, and given to the girl: and she brought it to her mother. 12And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus. 13When Jesus heardof it, he departed from there in a boat into a desert place by himself: and when the people had heard of it, they followed him on foot out of the cities.
