Context of Leviticus 18:5
3After the doings of the land of Egypt, in which ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, where I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances. 4Ye shall perform my judgments, and keep my ordinances, to walk in them: I am the LORD your God. Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man doeth, he shall live in them: I am the LORD. 6None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD. 7The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover: she is thy mother; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 4-5judgments … statutes: The Bible anticipated that courts would interpret God's laws for different situations. These interpretations became case laws, known as mishpatim in Hebrew (see “statutes” in Leviticus 10:11). Paul refers to these verses in Romans 10:5 and Galatians 3:12, where he contrasts living "based on faith” or “by the law.”Read the comment
