Context of Leviticus 18:5
3You must not follow the practices of the land of Egypt, where you used to live, and you must not follow the practices of the land of Canaan, into which I am bringing you. You must not walk in their customs. 4You are to practice My judgments and keep My statutes by walking in them. I am the LORD your God. Keep My statutes and My judgments, for the man who does these things will live by them. I am the LORD. 6None of you are to approach any close relative to have sexual relations. I am the LORD. 7You must not expose the nakedness of your father by having sexual relations with your mother. She is your mother; you must not have sexual relations with her.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 5If a man keeps the “statutes” (i. e. the ordinances of Leviticus 18:4) and “judgments” of the divine law, he shall not be “cut off from his people” (compare Leviticus 18:29), he shall gain true life, the life which connects him with Yahweh through his obedience. See the margin reference and Luke 10:28; Romans 10:5; Galatians 3:12.Read the comment

These interpretations became case laws, known as mishpatim in Hebrew (see “statutes” in Leviticus 10:11). Paul refers to these verses in Romans 10:5 and Galatians 3:12, where he contrasts living "based on faith” or “by the law.”Read the comment

Obedience to the divine law always, indeed…Read the comment
