Context of Leviticus 18:5
3According to the doings of the land of Egypt, where you dwelt, you shall not do; and according to the doings of the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you, you shall not do; nor shall you walk in their ordinances. 4You shall observe My judgments and keep My ordinances, to walk in them: I am the Lord your God. You shall therefore keep My statutes and My judgments, which if a man does, he shall live by them: I am the Lord. 6‘None of you shall approach anyone who is near of kin to him, to uncover his nakedness: I am the Lord. 7The nakedness of your father or the nakedness of your mother you shall not uncover. She is your mother; you shall not uncover her nakedness.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 5If a man keeps the “statutes” (i. e. the ordinances of Leviticus 18:4) and “judgments” of the divine law, he shall not be “cut off from his people” (compare Leviticus 18:29), he shall gain true life, the life which connects him with Yahweh through his obedience. - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 4-5judgments … statutes: The Bible anticipated that courts would interpret God's laws for different situations. These interpretations became case laws, known as mishpatim in Hebrew (see “statutes” in Leviticus 10:11). Paul refers to these verses in Romans 10:5 and Galatians 3:12, where he contrasts living "based on faith” or “by the law.”Read the comment

Obedience to the divine law always, indeed…Read the comment
