Context of Acts 14:4
2But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers. 3So they stayed there for a considerable time, speaking out courageously for the Lord, who testified to the message of his grace, granting miraculous signs and wonders to be performed through their hands. But the population of the city was divided; some sided with the Jews, and some with the apostles. 5When both the Gentiles and the Jews (together with their rulers) made an attempt to mistreat them and stone them, 6Paul and Barnabas learned about it and fled to the Lycaonian cities of Lystra and Derbe and the surrounding region.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 4The multitude of the city was divided - The Jews treated the apostles as false teachers, and their miracles as impositions; and many of the people held with them: while the others, who had not hardened their hearts against the truth, felt the force of it; and, being without prejudice, could easily discern the miracles to be the work of God, and therefore held with the apostles.Read the comment
