Context of Luke 13:12
10Jesus was teaching in a synagogue on the day of rest—a holy day. 11A woman who was possessed by a spirit was there. The spirit had disabled her for 18 years. She was hunched over and couldn’t stand up straight. When Jesus saw her, he called her to come to him and said, “Woman, you are free from your disability.” 13He placed his hands on her, and she immediately stood up straight and praised God. 14The synagogue leader was irritated with Jesus for healing on the day of rest. The leader told the crowd, “There are six days when work can be done. So come on one of those days to be healed. Don’t come on the day of rest—a holy day.”

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 12Thou art loosed from thine infirmity - This was a remarkable declaration. It does not appear that the woman “applied” to him for a cure; yet Jesus addressed her, and the disease departed. How clear would be the proofs from such a case that he was the Messiah! And how mighty the power of him that by a word could restore her to health!Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 10-17Verses 10-17 Our Lord Jesus attended upon public worship on the sabbaths. Even bodily infirmities, unless very grievous, should not keep us from public worship on sabbath days. This woman came to Christ to be taught, and to get good to her soul, and then he relieved her bodily infirmity. This cure represents the work of Christ's grace upon the soul. And when crooked souls are made straight, they will show it by glorifying God. Christ knew that this ruler…Read the comment
