Context of Luke 11:13
11“If your child asks you, his father, for a fish, would you give him a snake instead? 12Or if your child asks you for an egg, would you give him a scorpion? Even though you’re evil, you know how to give good gifts to your children. So how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?” 14Jesus was forcing a demon out of a man. The demon had made the man unable to talk. When the demon had gone out, the man began to talk. The people were amazed. 15But some of them said, “He can force demons out of people only with the help of Beelzebul, the ruler of demons.”

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 5-13Verses 5-13 Christ encourages fervency and constancy in prayer. We must come for what we need, as a man does to his neighbour or friend, who is kind to him. We must come for bread; for that which is needful. If God does not answer our prayers speedily, yet he will in due time, if we continue to pray. Observe what to pray for; we must ask for the Holy Spirit, not only as necessary in order to our praying well, but as all spiritual blessings are included in…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 13give the Holy Spirit: The parallel passage in the Gospel of Matthew says that the Father will “give good things” (Matthew 7:11). Luke highlights the greatest of these gifts: the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit guides believers, gives them power to serve God, and marks them as belonging to God in salvation.
