Context of 2 Corinthians 9:12
10God gives seed to the farmer and food to those who need to eat. God will also give you seed and multiply it. In your lives he will increase the things you do that have his approval. 11God will make you rich enough so that you can always be generous. Your generosity will produce thanksgiving to God because of us. What you do to serve others not only provides for the needs of God’s people, but also produces more and more prayers of thanksgiving to God. 13You will honor God through this genuine act of service because of your commitment to spread the Good News of Christ and because of your generosity in sharing with them and everyone else. 14With deep affection they will pray for you because of the extreme kindness that God has shown you.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 6-15Verses 6-15 Money bestowed in charity, may to the carnal mind seem thrown away, but when given from proper principles, it is seed sown, from which a valuable increase may be expected. It should be given carefully. Works of charity, like other good works, should be done with thought and design. Due thought, as to our circumstances, and those we are about to relieve, will direct our gifts for charitable uses. Help should be given freely, be it more or less…Read the comment

Their generosity would help Jewish Christians (9:12), honor God (9:13), and show believers in Jerusalem that their non-Jewish brothers and sisters were true believers (9:13). This would lead to Jewish believers praying for and caring about the non-Jewish believers (9:14).
