Context of 1 Corinthians 16:8
6and perhaps I will stay with you or even spend the winter, so that you may help me on my journey, wherever I go. 7For I do not want to see you now just in passing. I hope to spend some time with you, if the Lord permits. But I will stay in Ephesus until Pentecost, 9for a wide door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many adversaries. 10When Timothy comes, see that you put him at ease among you, for he is doing the work of the Lord, as I am.

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 88. at Ephesus--whence Paul writes this Epistle. Compare 1Co 16:19, "Asia," wherein Ephesus was. until Pentecost--He seems to have stayed as he here purposes: for just when the tumult which drove him away broke out, he was already intending to leave Ephesus (Ac 19:21, 22). Combined with 1Co 5:7, 8, this verse fixes the date of this Epistle to a few weeks before Pentecost, and very soon after the Passover.Read the comment
