1 Corinthians 16:8 in other versions
Context of 1 Corinthians 16:8
6but it may be that I will stay with you [for a while], or even spend the winter, so that you may send me on my way to wherever I may go afterward. 7For I do not wish to see you right now just in passing, but I hope to remain with you for some time [later on], if the Lord permits. But I will stay in Ephesus until Pentecost, 9because a wide door for effective service has opened to me [in Ephesus, a very promising opportunity], and there are many adversaries. 10If Timothy comes, see to it that [you put him at ease, so that] he has nothing to fear in regard to you, for he is [devotedly] doing the Lord’s work, just as I am.

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 88. at Ephesus--whence Paul writes this Epistle. Compare 1Co 16:19, "Asia," wherein Ephesus was. until Pentecost--He seems to have stayed as he here purposes: for just when the tumult which drove him away broke out, he was already intending to leave Ephesus (Ac 19:21, 22). Combined with 1Co 5:7, 8, this verse fixes the date of this Epistle to a few weeks before Pentecost, and very soon after the Passover.Read the comment
