Context of Philippians 1:24
22But if I continue to live, I will be able to do more good things to help people. I do not know whether it would be better to live or to die. I do not know which to choose. 23Both of them seem very good to me. I want to leave this world so that I can be with Christ. That is a much better thing. But you people need me to continue to live here in this world. 25Yes, I am sure that you need me. For that reason, I know that I will continue to live among you. Then I will be able to help you to trust Christ even more. And that will make you even happier. 26Then, when I am there with you again, you will have an even better reason to thank Christ Jesus.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 21-26Verses 21-26 Death is a great loss to a carnal, worldly man, for he loses all his earthly comforts and all his hopes; but to a true believer it is gain, for it is the end of all his weakness and misery.
