Context of Romans 15:31
29I know that when I come to you, I will come in the fullness of the blessing of Christ. 30Now I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, through our Lord Jesus Christ and through the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in prayers to God on my behalf. Pray that I may be rescued from the unbelievers in Judea, that my ministry to Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints, 32and that, by God’s will, I may come to you with joy and be refreshed together with you. 33May the God of peace be with all of you. Amen.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 31That I may be delivered from them that do not believe - He knew that his countrymen, who had not received the Gospel, lay in wait for his life; and, no doubt, they thought they should do God service by destroying him, not only as an apostate, in their apprehension, from the Jewish religion, but as one who was labouring to subvert and entirely destroy it. - Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 31That I may be - The unbelieving Jews in Judea had been opposed to Paul‘s conversion. They could not forget that he had borne letters of commission from them to persecute the Christians at Damascus. They regarded him as an apostate. They had heard of his success among the Gentiles; and they had been informed that he “taught all the Jews among the Gentiles to forsake the laws of Moses;” Acts 21:21. Hence, the apostle could not but be aware that in…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 30-33Verses 30-33 Let us learn to value the effectual fervent prayers of the righteous. How careful should we be, lest we forfeit our interest in the love and prayers of God's praying people!
