Context of Mark 14:62
60Then the high priest stood up before them all and questioned Jesus, “Don’t you have an answer to what these men are testifying against you?” 61But he kept silent and did not answer. Again the high priest questioned him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?” “I am,” said Jesus, “and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.” 63Then the high priest tore his robes and said, “Why do we still need witnesses? 64You have heard the blasphemy. What is your decision?” They all condemned him as deserving death.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 53-65Verses 53-65 We have here Christ's condemnation before the great council of the Jews. Peter followed; but the high priest's fire-side was no proper place, nor his servants proper company, for Peter: it was an entrance into temptation. Great diligence was used to procure false witnesses against Jesus, yet their testimony was not equal to the charge of a capital crime, by the utmost stretch of their law. He was asked, Art thou the Son of the Blessed? that…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 62I am: Compare with study note on 6:49–50. Mark's audience has known from the beginning that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of God (1:1). This was acknowledged: by demons (1:24; 3:11; 5:7), by God (1:11; 9:7), and by the disciples (8:29–30). But this is the first time that Jesus openly and publicly acknowledged that he was the Christ (the Messiah, God's chosen one). The second part of the reply Jesus gave was that he would sit at God’s right hand, the place…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 6262. And Jesus said, I am--or, as in Matthew (Mt 26:64), "Thou hast said [it]." Some words, however, were spoken by our Lord before giving His answer to this solemn question. These are recorded by Luke alone (Lu 22:67, 68): "Art Thou the Christ [they asked]?…Read the comment
