13Still, nobody was talking publicly about him for fear of the Jews. 14When the festival was already half over, Jesus went up into the temple and began to teach. Then the Jews were amazed and said, “How is this man so learned, since he hasn’t been trained?” 16Jesus answered them, “My teaching isn’t mine but is from the one who sent me. 17If anyone wants to do his will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 15How knoweth this man letters, having never learned? - The Jewish learning consisted in the knowledge of their own scriptures, and the traditions of their elders. In this learning our blessed Lord excelled. No person ever spoke with more grace and dignity, or knew better how to make a more proper use, or a happier application, of Jewish allegories and parables; because none ever penetrated the sense of the Scriptures as he did; none ever cited them more…Read the comment

What early human teaching the Saviour…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 14-24Verses 14-24 Every faithful minister may humbly adopt Christ's words. His doctrine is not his own finding out, but is from God's word, through the teaching of his Spirit. And amidst the disputes which disturb the world, if any man, of any nation, seeks to do the will of God, he shall know whether the doctrine is of God, or whether men speak of themselves. Only those who hate the truth shall be given up to errors which will be fatal. Surely it was as…Read the comment

In contrast, Paul had studied under a respected teacher (Acts 22:3).Read the comment

This was probably the first time that He did so thus openly in Jerusalem.
