Context of Mark 9:3
1Then Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God arrive with power.” 2After six days Jesus took with Him Peter, James, and John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There He was transfigured before them. His clothes became radiantly white, brighter than any launderer on earth could bleach them. 4And Elijah and Moses appeared before them, talking with Jesus. 5Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 2-10Verses 2-10 And after six days - See this passage explained in the notes at Matthew 17:1-9. Mark 9:3 No fuller - Rather, no “scourer.” The office of the person here mentioned was to “scour” or “whiten” cloth; not to “full” it, or to render it thicker. Mark 9:6 He wist not - He “knew not.” He was desirous of saying something, and he knew not what would be proper.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 2-8This story is connected to 8:27–9:1 both chronologically (After six days) and thematically (9:7). The presence of Peter, James, and John might be the fulfillment of “some standing here” in 9:1 (see also 5:37; 13:3; 14:33). Some interpreters believe that the Son of God’s glory before he became human (his pre-incarnate glory) shone through his human nature for a moment at the transfiguration (John 1:14; 17:5). It is more likely that this event was an early…Read the comment
