Context of Mark 9:3
1And Jesus said to them, “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste (experience) death before they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power.” 2Six days later, Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John, and led them up on a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured (changed in form) before them [and began to shine brightly with divine and regal glory]; and His clothes became radiant and dazzling, intensely white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them. 4Elijah appeared to them along with Moses, and they were having a conversation with Jesus. 5Peter responded and said to Jesus, “Rabbi (Master), it is good for us to be here; let us make three [sacred] tents—one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 2-8This story is connected to 8:27–9:1 both chronologically (After six days) and thematically (9:7). The presence of Peter, James, and John might be the fulfillment of “some standing here” in 9:1 (see also 5:37; 13:3; 14:33). Some interpreters believe that the Son of God’s glory before he became human (his pre-incarnate glory) shone through his human nature for a moment at the transfiguration (John 1:14; 17:5). It is more likely that this event was an early…Read the comment
