Context of John 14:2
1“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe in Me as well. In My Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am. 4You know the way to the place where I am going.”

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 2In my Father's house, etc. - The kingdom of glory. Many mansions - Though I have said before that whither I am going ye cannot come now, yet do not think that we shall be for ever separated. It is taken from the verb to remain, and signifies the place where one dwells or remains…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 2In My Father’s house are many rooms: God's house is where he lives (Revelation 21:9–22:5). The Greek word for rooms comes from a verb meaning "remain, abide, dwell." Jesus promises his followers a place to live with him, wherever he is. Later, this house becomes a spiritual presence. Jesus makes his home in the hearts of his followers through the Holy Spirit (John 14:23). This means that believers carry God’s presence inside them.Read the comment
