Context of Matthew 4:24
22Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him [becoming His disciples, believing and trusting in Him and following His example]. 23And He went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the good news (gospel) of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness among the people [demonstrating and revealing that He was indeed the promised Messiah]. So the news about Him spread throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all who were sick, those suffering with various diseases and pains, those under the power of demons, and epileptics, paralytics; and He healed them. 25Large crowds followed Him from Galilee and the Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judea and the other side of the Jordan.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 24Sick people - , , those who felt ill - were afflicted with any species of malady. And torments - , from , to examine by torture, such as cholics, gouts, and rheumatisms, which racked every joint. Possessed with devils - Daemoniacs. Persons possessed by evil spirits. - Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 24And his fame went throughout all Syria - It is not easy to fix the exact bounds of Syria in the time of our Saviour. It was, perhaps, the general name for the country lying between the Euphrates on the east, and the Mediterranean on the west; and between Mount Taurus on the north, and Arabia on the south. Through all this region his celebrity was spread by his power of working miracles; and, as might be expected, the sick from every quarter were brought…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 23-25Verses 23-25 Wherever Christ went, he confirmed his Divine mission by miracles, which were emblems of the healing power of his doctrine, and the influences of the Spirit which accompanied it. He healed every sickness or disease; none was too bad; none too hard, for Christ to heal with a…Read the comment
