Context of Mark 16:8
6And he said to them, “Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen; He is not here. See, [here is] the place where they laid Him. 7But go, tell His disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you to Galilee; you will see Him there, just as He told you.’ ” They went out and fled from the tomb, for they were seized with trembling and astonishment; and they said nothing [about it] to anyone, because they were afraid. 9[Now Jesus, having risen [from death] early on the first day of the week, appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom He had cast out seven demons. 10She went and reported it to those who had been with Him, while they were mourning and weeping.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 1-8Verses 1-8 See this passage explained in the notes at Matthew 28:1-8. Mark 16:1 Sweet spices - “Aromatics.” Substances used in embalming. The idea of sweetness is not, however, implied in the original. Many of the substances used for embalming were “bitter” - as, for example, myrrh - and none of them, perhaps, could properly be called “sweet.” The word “spices” expresses all that there is in the original. - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 8The story ends with the women running away from the tomb. They were shaking with fear and confused (not sure what was happening). they did not say a word to anyone: This can be understood in two ways. It may be positive. The women may not have spoken to others because they were focused on their task to tell the disciples (16:7; compare Luke 10:4; 2 Kings 4:29). Or it may be negative. The women may have failed to deliver the message at that moment (compare…Read the comment
