Context of John 2:10
8Then He said to them, “Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter [of the banquet].” So they took it to him. 9And when the headwaiter tasted the water which had turned into wine, not knowing where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew) he called the bridegroom, and said to him, “Everyone else serves his best wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then he serves that which is not so good; but you have kept back the good wine until now.” 11This, the first of His signs (attesting miracles), Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and revealed His glory [displaying His deity and His great power openly], and His disciples believed [confidently] in Him [as the Messiah—they adhered to, trusted in, and relied on Him]. 12After this He went down to Capernaum, He and His mother and brothers and His disciples; and they stayed there a few days.

It may mean when they have drunk sufficient, or to satiety; or have drunk so much as to produce hilarity, and to destroy the keenness of their taste, so that they could not readily distinguish the good from that which was worse. But this cannot be adduced in favor of…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 9-10The master of the banquet repeated a common saying. Normally, the best wine was served first, when people could taste it most clearly. Later, wine of lower quality was served. But this time it was different. The wine Jesus made, served last, was the best of all. In the Old Testament, good wine was a sign of God’s blessing(Amos 9:13–14). This miracle showed that the Messiah, God’s greatest blessing, had now come.Read the comment
