Context of Acts 2:26
24But God raised Him up, releasing Him and bringing an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in death’s power. 25For David says of Him, ‘I saw the Lord constantly before me; For He is at my right hand, so that I will not be shaken [from my state of security]. Therefore my heart rejoiced and my tongue exulted exceedingly; Moreover my flesh also will live in hope [that is, will encamp in anticipation of the resurrection]; 27For You will not forsake me and abandon my soul to Hades (the realm of the dead), Nor let Your Holy One undergo decay [after death]. 28You have made known to me the ways of life; You will fill me [infusing my soul] with joy with Your presence.’

Commentaries on Acts 2:26
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 26And my tongue was glad - In the Hebrew it is כבודי ויגל vaiyagel kebodi, "And my glory was glad:" but the evangelist follows the Septuagint, in reading ̔ , what all the other Greek interpreters in the Hexapla translate , my glory. And what is to be understood by glory here! Why the soul, certainly, and not the tongue; and so some of the best critics interpret the place.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 26Therefore - Peter ascribes these expressions to the Messiah. The reason why he would exult or rejoice was, that he would be preserved amidst the sorrows that were coming on him, and could look forward to the triumph that awaited him. Thus, Paul says Hebrews 12:2 that “Jesus “for the joy that was set before him,” endured the cross, despising the shame,” etc. Throughout the New Testament, the shame and sorrow of his sufferings were regarded as connected…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 22-36Verses 22-36 From this gift of the Holy Ghost, Peter preaches unto them Jesus: and here is the history of Christ. Here is an account of his death and sufferings, which they witnessed but a few weeks before. His death is considered as God's act; and of wonderful grace and wisdom. Thus Divine justice must be satisfied, God and man brought together again, and Christ himself glorified, according to an eternal counsel, which could not be altered. And as the…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 23-28Although cruel men put Jesus to death on a cross, they did not defeat God’s plan for salvation. In fact, God raised Jesus from the dead, just as David had foretold (2:25–28).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 22-2822-28. a man approved of God--rather, "authenticated," "proved," or "demonstrated to be from God." by miracles ... which God did by him--This is not a low view of our Lord's miracles, as has been alleged, nor inconsistent with Joh 2:11, but is in strict accordance with His progress from humiliation to glory, and with His own words in Joh 5:19. This view of Christ is here dwelt on to exhibit to the Jews the whole course of Jesus of Nazareth as the…Read the comment
