Context of Psalms 45:3
1For the music director, according to “Lilies.” Of the sons of Korah, a contemplative song, a love song. 2My heart is stirred with a good word. I speak my verses to the king. My tongue is the pen of a skillful writer. You are the most handsome of the sons of men. Grace pours from your lips. Therefore God has blessed you forever. 4Gird your sword on your thigh, O mighty one, in your splendor and your majesty. 5In your majesty ride victoriously, on behalf of truth, meekness and justice. Let your right hand display awesome things.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 3Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most mighty - This clause should be translated, O hero, gird thy sword upon thy thigh! This, I think, cannot be spoken of Solomon. He was not a warlike prince: he never did any feats of arms. It has been said he would have been a warrior, if he had had enemies; it might have been so: but the words more properly apply to Christ, who is King of kings, and Lord of lords; whose sword with two edges, proceeding from his mouth…Read the comment

The Messiah is introduced here as a conquering king; as about to go forward to subdue the nations to himself; as about to set up a permanent kingdom. O most mighty - That is, Hero; Warrior; Conqueror. With thy glory and thy majesty - With the glory and majesty appropriate to thee; or which properly belong to thee.
