Context of Matthew 15:31
29After Yeshua left there, He went along the Sea of Galilee. Then He went up on a mountainside and was sitting there. 30And large crowds came to Him, bringing with them the lame, blind, disabled, mute, and many others. And they laid them at His feet, and He healed them. So the crowd marveled when they saw the mute speaking, the disabled made whole, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. And they praised the God of Israel. 32Yeshua called His disciples and said, “I have compassion for the crowd, because they’ve stayed with Me for three days now and have nothing to eat. I don’t want to send them away hungry, because they might pass out on the way.” 33The disciples said to Him, “Where in this wasteland is enough bread to satisfy such a large crowd?”

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 31The multitude wondered - And well they might, when they had such proofs of the miraculous power and love of God before their eyes. Maimed - Those to whom a hand or foot was wanting. See Matthew 18:8. To cure them - that is, to restore a hand or foot - was a direct act of creative power. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 29-39Verses 29-39 Whatever our case is, the only way to find ease and relief, is to lay it at Christ's feet, to submit it to him, and refer it to his disposal. Those who would have spiritual healing from Christ, must be ruled as he pleases. See what work sin has made; what various diseases human bodies are subject to. Here were such diseases as fancy could neither guess the cause nor the cure of, yet these were subject to the command of Christ. The spiritual…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 29-31Jesus returned to an area with mostly Gentiles (non-Jews) and performed many miracles. Although God mainly sent Jesus for Israel (Matthew 15:21–28), Jesus also started a new era for Gentile salvation (1:3, 5–6; 2:1–12; 4:12–16; 8:5–13; 15:21–28; 28:16–20). These healings show that God's kingdom began with the work of Jesus (8:1–9:34; 11:5–6; 12:28). the God of Israel: This suggests that the crowd (15:30) was mostly Gentile.Read the comment
