Context of Matthew 15:31
29Moving on from there, Jesus passed along the Sea of Galilee. He went up on a mountain and sat there, 30and large crowds came to him, including the lame, the blind, the crippled, those unable to speak, and many others. They put them at his feet, and he healed them. So the crowd was amazed when they saw those unable to speak talking, the crippled restored, the lame walking, and the blind seeing, and they gave glory to the God of Israel. 32Jesus called his disciples and said, “I have compassion on the crowd, because they’ve already stayed with me three days and have nothing to eat. I don’t want to send them away hungry, otherwise they might collapse on the way.” 33The disciples said to him, “Where could we get enough bread in this desolate place to feed such a crowd?”

Maimed - Those to whom a hand or foot was wanting. See Matthew 18:8. To cure them - that is, to restore a hand or foot - was a direct act of creative power. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 29-39Verses 29-39 Whatever our case is, the only way to find ease and relief, is to lay it at Christ's feet, to submit it to him, and refer it to his disposal. Those who would have spiritual healing from Christ, must be ruled as he pleases. See what work sin has made; what various diseases human bodies are subject to. Here were such diseases as fancy could neither guess the cause nor the cure of, yet these were subject to the command of Christ. The spiritual…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 29-31Jesus returned to an area with mostly Gentiles (non-Jews) and performed many miracles. Although God mainly sent Jesus for Israel (Matthew 15:21–28), Jesus also started a new era for Gentile salvation (1:3, 5–6; 2:1–12; 4:12–16; 8:5–13; 15:21–28; 28:16–20). These healings show that God's kingdom began with the work of Jesus (8:1–9:34; 11:5–6; 12:28). the God of Israel: This suggests that the crowd (15:30) was mostly Gentile.Read the comment
