Context of Mark 8:24

22They come to Bethsaida. Some people bring a blind man to Yeshua and beg Him to touch the man. 23Taking the blind man by the hand, Yeshua brought him outside the village. After spitting on the man’s eyes and laying His hands on him, Yeshua asked the man, “Do you see anything?” The man looked up and said, “I see men! They look like trees walking about.” 25Then Yeshua put His hands on the man’s eyes again. The man looked intently, his sight was restored, and he began to see everything clearly. 26Yeshua sent him straight home, saying, “Don’t even enter the village!”

• Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 24I see men as trees, walking - His sight was so imperfect that he could not distinguish between men and trees, only by the motion of the former.Read the comment
• Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 24I see men, as trees, walking - I see men walking, but see them so indistinctly that, but for their “motion,” I could not distinguish them from trees. I cannot distinctly see their shapes and features. Probably our Lord did not “at once” restore him fully to sight, that he might strengthen his faith. Seeing that Jesus had partially restored him, it was evidence that he could “wholly,” and it led him to exercise faith anew in him, and to feel more…Read the comment
• Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 22-26Verses 22-26 Here is a blind man brought to Christ by his friends. Therein appeared the faith of those that brought him. If those who are spiritually blind, do not pray for themselves, yet their friends and relations should pray for them, that Christ would be pleased to touch them. The cure was wrought gradually, which was not usual in our Lord's miracles. Christ showed in what method those commonly are healed by his grace, who by nature are spiritually…Read the comment
• Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 24-25The healing was not immediate. At first, the man saw imperfectly. After Jesus touched him a second time, he fully healed the man. Who is this man who calms the sea and heals the blind? Peter reveals this in the next account. He is the Christ (8:29).Read the comment
• Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 2424. And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking--This is one of the cases in which one edition of what is called the received text differs from another. That which is decidedly the best supported, and has also internal evidence on its side is this: "I see men; for I see [them] as trees walking"--that is, he could distinguish them from trees only by their motion; a minute mark of truth in the narrative, as Alford observes, describing how human…Read the comment
