Context of Mark 1:25
23Just then there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, 24“What have we to do with You, Yeshua of Natzeret? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are! You’re the Holy One of God!” Yeshua rebuked him, saying, “Quiet! Come out of him!” 26And the unclean spirit, after throwing the man into convulsions and crying out with a loud voice, came out of him. 27They were all so amazed that they asked among themselves, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him!”

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 25And Jesus rebuked him - A spirit of this cast will only yield to the sovereign power of the Son of God. All watchings, fasting, and mortifications, considered in themselves, will do little or no good. Uncleanness, of every description, will only yield to the rebuke of God.Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 23-28Verses 23-28 The devil is an unclean spirit, because he has lost all the purity of his nature, because he acts in direct opposition to the Holy Spirit of God, and by his suggestions defiles the spirits of men. - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 25Jesus did not need to shout or use magic words. He spoke with the authority of the Son of God, and the evil spirit obeyed (1:1). Be silent!: Jesus commanded the evil spirit not to reveal his identity. This is an example of the “messianic secret.” This term describes places in Mark where Jesus tells demons or people not to reveal who he is (1:25, 34; 3:11–12; 8:30; 9:9).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 2525. And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him--A glorious word of command. Bengel remarks that it was only the testimony borne to Himself which our Lord meant to silence. That he should afterwards cry out for fear or rage (Mr 1:26) He would right willingly permit.Read the comment
