Revised Version 1895
Nehemiah 2:1-5
1And it cameH1961 to passH1961 in the monthH2320 NisanH5212, in the twentiethH6242 yearH8141 of ArtaxerxesH783 the kingH4428, when wineH3196 was beforeH6440 him, that I tookH5375 upH5375 the wineH3196, and gaveH5414 it unto the kingH4428. NowH1961 I had notH3808 been beforetime sad in his presenceH6440.
2And the kingH4428 saidH559 unto meH6440, WhyH4069 is thy countenanceH6440 sadH7455, seeingH3588 thou art notH369 sickH2470? this is nothingH369 else but sorrow of heartH3820. Then I was veryH3966 sore afraidH3372.
3And I saidH559 unto the kingH4428, LetH3808 the kingH4428 liveH2421 for everH5769: whyH4069 should notH3808 my countenanceH6440 be sad, when the cityH5892, the placeH1004 of my fathers’H1 sepulchres, lieth waste, and the gatesH8179 thereof are consumedH398 with fireH784?
4Then the kingH4428 saidH559 unto meH413, For whatH4100 dost thou makeH6419 requestH1245? SoH2088 I prayedH6419 to the GodH430 of heavenH8064.
5And I saidH559 unto the kingH4428, IfH518 it pleaseH2895 the kingH4428, and ifH518 thy servantH5650 have foundH3190 favour in thy sightH6440, that thou wouldest sendH7971 meH413 unto JudahH3063, unto the cityH5892 of my fathers’H1 sepulchres, that I may buildH1129 it.
