Context of Matthew 15:21
19For out of the heart come evil ideas, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20These are the things that defile a person; it is not eating with unwashed hands that defiles a person.” After going out from there, Jesus went to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22A Canaanite woman from that area came and cried out, “Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is horribly demon-possessed!” 23But he did not answer her a word. Then his disciples came and begged him, “Send her away, because she keeps on crying out after us.”

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 21Departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon - , towards the coasts or confines. It is not clear that our Lord ever left the land of the Hebrews; he was, as the apostle observes, Romans 15:8, the minister of the circumcision according to the truth of God. Tyre and Sidon are usually joined together, principally because they are but a few miles distant from each other.Read the comment

The distress and trouble of her family brought a woman to Christ; and though it is need that drives us to Christ, yet we shall not therefore be driven from him. She did not limit Christ to any particular instance of mercy, but mercy, mercy, is what she begged for: she pleads not merit, but depends upon…Read the comment
