Context of 2 Samuel 22:19

17He sent from above, he took me; he drew me out of many waters; 18He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated me: for they were too strong for me. They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the Lord was my stay. 20He brought me forth also into a large place: he delivered me, because he delighted in me. 21The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness: according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.

Commentaries on 2 Samuel 22:19

• Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 8-20David clearly explains how God listened to him (2 Samuel 22:7). He describes God's rescue as a theophany (a visible sign of God's presence; see study notes on Exodus 19:16–25; Deuteronomy 1:33), which reminds us of God's appearance at Mount Sinai (Exodus 19:16–20; compare Judges 5:4–5).Read the comment
