Context of Romans 1:6
4In his spiritual, holy nature he was declared the Son of God. This was shown in a powerful way when he came back to life. 5Through him we have received God’s kindness and the privilege of being apostles who bring people from every nation to the obedience that is associated with faith. This is for the honor of his name. You are among those who have been called to belong to Jesus Christ.) 7To everyone in Rome whom God loves and has called to be his holy people. Good will and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ are yours! 8First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for every one of you because the news of your faith is spreading throughout the whole world.

Commentaries on Romans 1:6
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 6Ye are the called - Ye Romans are all invited to believe in Christ Jesus, for the salvation of your souls; and to you, with the rest, my apostolical mission extends. This appears to be the most obvious sense of the word called in this place - to be called by the Gospel is to be invited to believe in Christ Jesus, and become his disciples. The word sometimes means constituted, or made, as in Romans 1:1.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 6Among whom - That is, among the Gentiles who had become obedient to the Christian faith in accordance with the design of the gospel, Romans 1:8. This proves that the church at Rome was made up partly at least, if not mainly, of Gentiles or pagans. This is fully proved in the xvith. chapter by the names of the persons whom Paul salutes. The called of Jesus Christ - Those whom Jesus Christ has called to be his followers. The word “called” (see Romans 1:1)…Read the comment
